YouTube Music AI Labels: Who Declares Fully, Partly or No Gen AI?
YouTube Music now labels songs that were created primarily using generative AI. The label is decided by two inputs: what music partners declare when they deliver a track (Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI or No Gen AI), and YouTube's own detection signals. If a partner declares nothing, YouTube says it may rely solely on its signals.
What did YouTube Music announce?
On October 14, 2026, YouTube said YouTube Music is rolling out labels "to make it easier to see when a song was created primarily using generative AI," for example when a generative model creates the composition and vocals. The label appears on the player page, tapping it opens a menu with more information, and the labels will also expand to the main YouTube app.
YouTube said it is "teaming up with music partners and using our own detection tools to identify AI-generated tracks, applying the same labeling principles already used across YouTube."
How do music partners declare Gen AI use?
According to YouTube's Help Center, partners can provide Gen AI information when delivering content through DDEX ERN 4.3.2+ or CSV delivery templates, under the terms of their SRAV. Uploaders who use YouTube Studio instead can mark disclosures in the attribute section of Studio. In the CSV template, the contains_ai column takes "all", "partly", "none", or "unknown" to reset a misdeclared value.
What counts as Fully, Partly or No Gen AI?
Designation | Example from YouTube's Help Center | CSV value |
|---|---|---|
Fully Gen AI | A user enters a text prompt into an AI music generator and downloads the track | all |
Partly Gen AI | An artist generates a bassline or string section with AI and records live vocals and instruments over it | partly |
Partly Gen AI | 100% human-performed audio, with music video visuals made by a text-to-video model | partly |
No Gen AI | Standard pitch correction (e.g. Auto-Tune) on minor tuning mistakes in a live vocal | none |
No Gen AI | Automated AI mastering for final EQ, compression and balance | none |
The Help Center adds that "it is up to partners to interpret the Gen AI definitions provided by DDEX in relation to their content."
What happens if a partner does not declare anything?
YouTube treats a missing value as unknown "unless we are able to make a determination based on other signals." The Help Center also states: "If partners do not include any Gen AI information for a piece of content, YouTube will rely solely on those signals and may designate content as fully or partly Gen AI."
Does the label affect recommendations or royalties?
The announcement does not say. Music Business Worldwide noted that neither the blog post nor the Help Center page spells out how labeled tracks are treated in recommendations or royalty payouts, or whether "Partly Gen AI" tracks carry the player label.
What should distributors keep on record?
In our reading, the practical task for distributors and labels is being able to explain why each track received its declaration. Creator confirmations, project files and AI detection results are examples of records a team can decide to keep before delivery, so that a later question about a label has an answer. An AI music detection result is one such record: it shows what a detector found, while the declaration itself remains the partner's call.
Where does MuseBlossom fit?
MusicScanner, MuseBlossom's AI music detection tool, is currently in open beta. A detection result is a signal about AI generation, not a judgment of how much a human contributed. Separately, MuseBlossom's Contents Defence is listed on the C2PA Conforming Products List for image (June 11, 2026), audio (August 11, 2026) and video (September 21, 2026). A listing confirms conformance to the standard; it is not a guarantee of individual product features.
