C2PA Conformance Program — listed generator product

Provenance that survives
the loss of metadata.

Contents Defence embeds an invisible watermark in an image so that its Content Credentials can be recovered even after the file has been re-encoded, re-uploaded, or stripped of its metadata along the way.

Messaging apps, social platforms and content pipelines routinely re-encode images and discard whatever metadata was attached. When that happens, a signed manifest alone is no longer enough — something has to remain inside the picture itself. That is the role of the watermark described on this page.

What the service does

Invisible watermarking

An identifier is embedded into the image itself. The result is visually indistinguishable from the original and travels with the file wherever it is redistributed.

Verification and attribution

A suspected image can be checked to recover the embedded identifier, which resolves to the issuing account and the moment of issue.

C2PA Content Credentials

Every issued image carries a signed C2PA manifest describing its origin, its creator, and its AI training preferences.

Soft binding

When a C2PA manifest is no longer attached to a file, the watermark acts as a soft binding: the identifier recovered from the image is used to locate the manifest that was issued with it. The identifier below is the algorithm reference used for that purpose.
